Quiet few days.

Ive had a cold this week so havent done huge amounts had a short ride yesterday then rode out with M today and my three pooches.I have to walk them along the lane leading Polo as there a too many cars to risk it with the dogs but they all enjoyed it.Polo likes the easy option of being led me thinks:))).
So far out we pass a couple of house'hs and in the garden of one they had one of those huge trampolines well it was on its side with the wind and looked like it was ready to go up so we turned back, bit too risky one big gust would have done it!

Bumped into my friend while we were out riding she has a unrelated Border to mine and to be honest its really a poor example but she's desperate to have pups out of it and now wants to line it with Buster. Its a difficult one cos obviously she loves her dog but do I hurt her feelings and say it isnt good enough to breed from (I dont really want to encourage poor breeding) or say im charging X amount and if she's willing to pay let her get on with it?My oh reckons whatever I say she'll breed from it and at least if it's lined with a quality dog there might be a chance of improving the pups but Im still not comfortable about it.

Going to start with AliG next week its been over a month would you believe it so will do a couple of long reining sessions next week and the week after then will hopefully get out for a few short hacks while im off over Christmas:)

Wind and moving objects is always a risk.

As for the breeding? I guess it all depends on whether or not Buster needs a reputation in the dog world. If he sires a crop of mediocre pups, will that effect his standing later on should you decide to profit from him as a sire?

If it doesn't matter, then it's probably OK, but there is still no guarantee his pups will upgrade the momma.

I have a friend who bred a good quality litter and she, at last I heard, was having trouble placing all the pups. What would be the prospect for pups' getting homes from your friend's litter? No reason to bring unwanted puppies into the world either.

Just my two sense.

It wouldnt really affect Buster's reputation as they would purely be pets, think she said she has friends interested,I wouldnt have any involvement. But I agreed I dont want to encourage poor breeding.
I just dont know how to tell her the dog,who she obviously love's to bits, isnt good enough to breed from.
Awkward position to be in as she's a lovely person but a bit clueless..she ask if i'd want a pup instead of stud fee,I was like errr no thanks!

Me too - rubbish innit?

Ooh, the dog problem. Your OH is complete right of course, she'll breed from her anyway. Ummm - excuses - how about not wanting to breed Buster to a friend's dogs in his first season in case things go wrong????

How bad is the mum? If there is any chance of health problems in the babes, then your conscience can't let you do it, can it, and you'll just have to find an excuse.

Any chence of kidnapping hte mum and putting it do a good strong, gene improving mongrel :-))))?

No she's not bad like that just doesnt really look like a Border Terrier!Borders are meant to have a face like an otter hers has a long pointy nose totally un-otter like, bit too tall, tail too long...nothing horrendous I suppose.
Basically anyone who wants a nice Border wouldnt buy one but someone who wants a terrier 'type' as a pet would probably be happy.
The woman she bought the dog from breeds everything with no regard for quality.
Might have a way without having to say your dog's ugly :) was talking to M today and there's a chance they might not be Kennel Club registered. If thats the case i'll simply say I wouldnt risk my bitch for a litter that couldnt be sold with papers. They'd be lucky to sell for £100 so time you factor in the stud fee, possibility of vet bills or something going wrong with your dog its not worth the risk then leave it up to her.
Next time she asks i'll ask to see the papers then go from there....

No horsey news fed and lifted AliGs stable thats its...hopefully will have the whole day to potter up there tomorrow!

bearing in mind that quality borders can fetch a fair whack ( we were quoted £300 or so 5 years ago from a friend!!! and hers are good) - no papers = no breeding, too many unwanted pups about as you say..

enjoy tomorrow, i learnt a lot (and have video!)
