He won!

Yeah Buster won his class AND beat the other puppies to win best dog pup in show!
Was totally amazed as the judge didnt seem to look at him much when we first went in and he was a bit hyper so getting him to stand and walk properly was fun but she'd obviously decided straight away that she liked him.I got lots of complimentary comments from other show people about him, including the judge's steward coming over to say I really like your pup, and breeder wants to use him to line his bitches instead of using his own dogs so things are looking promising.Although I know I could just as easily go to the next show and get nothing so its definitely too early to get carried away.
Anyway two first placing in 3shows and he's qualified for Crufts already.
Mouse also got a VHC,which is 5th, I was REALLY suprised at this as it was a big class, i'd convinced myself her coat wasnt right and she kept sitting down(I really need to start practicing dont I) so im delighted.
Made the getting up at 5am,taking the wrong turn off and getting lost for half an hour then having to literally run to find the ring all worthwhile..I 'think':)))

Well now, if getting lost is a good luck charm, I ought to win th lottery!! Wow, way to go, Buster! That is really great.

Then again, looking at his pictures I just want to hug him no end, so what else could the judge do but put him first? *G*

If breeders are talking to you, he must be one exceptional example fellow. I am predicting this will not be the last success. Funny how the judge just "knew" right from the start that he was the one. They say a really good dog just "takes over" the show ring.

Whoops! I forgot Mouse's accolades. Good placing in a big class, I'd say. Now we do have to get her to stand up, though. *S* Silly girl. More personality than proper etiquette, I think. *G*

Thanks im chuffed I knew he had something when he was tiny good to know my instincts were spot on.
He has a really strong head which is getting lost within the breed, granny sky has the same head,Peter(breeder) and the lady who started him off showing seem to be really excited about him.
I think he's going to be the type that judges love or hate then obviously we'll have the "you scratch my back i'll scratch yours" stuff to contend with within the judges.
He's going to be quite easy to show like Minx I reckon, once he settles down.Mouse is extremely difficult as she's so head strong she knows what to do but does it when she see's fit.But her critiques have always commented on her alert personality so it must work in her favour :))

Well DONE!

They sound like dogs with their own mind, ... just liketheir owner ^-^

I woudl love tro see them "live". They all look gorgeous.

Do you have to train in particular way for showing???

Cheers!

Muriel most showy folks do all the puppy ring craft classes but I dont have time or inclination for any of that(who moi strong minded !:0).I just tend to plonk them on my kitchen table couple of times and stand them out with a bit of food to get them focused.
Minx becomes too excited with food but is a very willing dog so didnt need it once she got the idea...I think Buster's going to be the same.
Mouse is a different kettle of fish and will only stand and hold in the ring when food is on the go:))
We've had lots of different breeds of dogs over the years and terriers are by and far the most difficult they are so strong willed with an endless supply of energy!

I was completely wrecked today so I poo picked then AliG had a lunging session in the field to help with the tum.
I gave Polo half a sachet of bute he then proceeded to gallop across the field like a lunatic when I turned him out?!?!?

High on BUTE then ... maybe try Danillon next time, it is less strong ... ^-^

Yep from your description I understood that terrier won't be good as FIRST family dog LOL!

Which breed will you recommand for a first family dog for people with little (me) to none (OH) dog handling experience ?

Bit difficult to say Muriel cos we've nearly always had rescues or I suppose what you'd call the more demanding breeds..German Shepherds, lots of different terriers,English Bull etc.
But I did end up with my dad's bosses Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and he was a lovely dog.Easy to train, intelligent, gentle and extremely loyal.
His girlfriend couldnt get him house trained so we took him for a a couple of weeks, trained him(in couple of days!) but he wouldnt eat when he went back to her so we got him back to keep.
They do have a tendancy for getting fat and having heart problems but I was always carefull to keep him lean and he lived to 15years old which is a good age for any dog.
Im probably biased but Border's are one of the nicest natured terriers. Mine are brilliant with my niece and generally love everyone they just need a HUGE amount of exercise and stimulation so if you lead a busy life you'd be fine.
Plus you have the advantage that they are bred to go out with horse's:)))))
